Postpartum Doula Services

in-home mother-centred care

“On Mondays we hang out with our doula Jenny. We look forward to it all week. Today’s treats included a foot bath and moxibustion to bring circulation back to the womb, cacao and yoga, wrapping and closing the bones. Jenny also brings me supportive herbal teas, a meal and sweet treats all to support my recovery and feeding Betsy. It is SO hard in our culture to allow someone to come and do things for you while you rest and it’s taken me weeks to get used to but it’s so worth it and I believe has helped massively with my emotional well-being in this phase. We love you Jenny 💗

If you’re expecting a baby soon or wondering what to gift a friend that is gift them Jenny”

Postpartum doula nurture sessions

As a postpartum doula I work with women to provide mother-centred care in the days/weeks/months (even years) following on from birth.

This can be a one off session, daily visits, weekly visits, or even monthly visits. You can choose from the various packages below, or get in touch for more tailored options.

Postpartum care is often something that families do not prepare for, however this can be the foundation to THRIVING family life, and a deep bond between mother and baby. It can also be the foundation to a woman’s health in the decades following on from birth. We can view it as an opportunity to really replenish the nutrient stores that we lose from giving birth, tending to our pelvic, hormonal and mental health, meaning a more easeful transition into our menopausal years.

A Postpartum Doula tends to the health and wellbeing of the mother. Saying that, the mother and baby are considered a unit in the months following on from birth, and so tending to the mother directly has an impact on the health and wellbeing of baby. This is referred to as the mother-baby dyad.

In-home postpartum care can include:

  • nutritious food bundles to support postpartum health and replenishment, made with organic ingredients (2 days worth of food for mum included in each session)

  • herbal blends used for teas, steams and bathing

  • postpartum herbal support - advice on how herbs can support you during your postpartum recovery

  • “closing of the bones” using a rebozo

  • birth storytelling - allowing you to feel witnessed in your experience of birth, and all of the emotions surrounding the event

  • gentle oil massage

  • belly binding

  • belly massage

  • foot baths and foot massage

  • cacao - we work with this both as nutritional support, and when holding ceremony

  • castor-oil heat pads (alleviating pain/discomfort following on from birth)

  • wound care and scar tissue remediation

  • light housework - laundry, dishes, tidying

  • sibling care/pet care

  • guidance on vaginal steaming (I bring a purpose built chair)

  • moxibustion (a Traditional Chinese Medicine practice of burning Moxa, or Chinese Mugwort, in a purpose build moxa box, promoting increased warmth, circulation and qi to the womb area)

  • baby wearing support

  • postpartum yoga (usually after 6 weeks)

  • yoga nidra (suitable for any time after giving birth)
